City Council approves extra funds for roads, denies new gazebo at Bell Park

During its regular June 07, 2016 meeting, the Forney City Council met and (this is a preliminary report, subject to revision):

  • Approved an Ordinance amending the budget for fiscal year 2015-2016 to transfer $358,264 from CIP fund balance to Redbud roadway project.
    Mr. Metz briefed council on the shortfall they discovered. Ms. Woodham explained the projects excesses that would be used. Mr. Metz showed the contractor estimates came in higher, concrete and flatwork very inflated. More drainage will be required than expected.
    There was a lively discussion about the overage.

    Penn, Stephens approved

  • Denied an Ordinance amending the budget for fiscal year 2015-2016 to transfer $30,000 from Mulberry Park projects to Bell Park Renovations.
    There was a lengthy discussion - Mr. McGee said more people use Mulberry Park in a day than use Bell Park all year long. Mr. Stephens said the need of the many outweigh the need of the few. Mr. Curry said it was an add-alternate on the Bell Park renovation.

  • Approved an Ordinance adopting a Comprehensive Plan.
    Mr. Morgan briefed council on the plan process . laTerra is committed to public input. They held public hearings - only one resident commented, which resulted in changes to trails. The Plan does not change any zoning or use - is used for future
    Mr. Johnson said the plan by Laterra was better
    Mr. Daniels said having done this 40+ years, this is one of better ones he has seen.

  • City Managers report - despite rain, BBQ cookoff was a success, about 3000 people, movie, blue star, entire weekend was a success, congrats to Mr. Curry.
    Quiet Zone - if it seems to be taking longer than usual - it has, because of rain. Expect to finish by end of next week. The city will then submit notice of estabishment, about 45 days later should be in effect.
    Would like to read a letter from ion design group, to compliment Morgan and Dormeyer, in work on Grayhawk.
    Ms. Penn asked about a designated spot out front to park for paying water bills. or handicap parking in front. Mr. Metz would work with the resident.
    Ms. Penn asked about Brazos street water.
    Mr. Johnson asked about new employees
    Mr. Johnson asked about getting Bois D'arc from txdot; still waiting on txdot.

    Mayor Wilson asked about College St fence - Mr. Metz said was no budget funding, expect to put in next budget.
