Forney EDC to offer Crumbzz building for sale for one month

During its regular Mar. 09, 2017 meeting, the Forney Economic Development Corp. met and (this is the preliminary report, subject to change):


  • Treasurer - Mr. Burrus said EDC is 41% through fiscal year, tax revenue is at 43%, which is a significant jump over last year - he asked Mr. Ketteman if this was seasonal or a trend. Mr. Ketteman believes it is a trend, across the board, March is a double-digit increase over last year. He attributes that to growth. Mr. McGregor mentioned tax reports are several months behind. Chmn McBeth pointed out these are same-store sales.
  • Directors report - a lot of meetings. Downtown parking - has moved slowly, because must clear utilities; utility companies farm that work out, utilities must be located. At Main & Elm, by sub-courthouse, found a gas line that has been cut and capped, believe can remove it and provide drainage. Hwy 80, have patience during the delays. They are trying to help the businesses on that stretch of construction; Mr. McGregor talked about the letter they are sending to TxDOT & reps to try and get exit ramp open. Mr. Ketteman had site visit from the Robin Hood project (a Wisconsin manufacturer) who had a private meeting with a local manufacturers. Plus a large prospect via State of Tx - an international company that would have large financial impact and 100 jobs.
  • Approved a facade grant incentive application for Wood's Transmission.
    Mr. Wood explained his plans for the wall he wants to build, the original construction has provisions for such an add-on.
  • Public Comment - None.
  • Held a 105-minute executive session re:
    • Possible sale of EDC-owned downtown property
    • Possible employment of a summer college intern
    • Economic development negotiations with current prospects

  • Chmn McBeth recused himself, to outside the building.
  • Mr. Ketteman stated they had discussed in executive session the potential sale of 212 Bois D'arc, after having Chmn McBeth leave the room, as he is interested in buying it. Mr. Ketteman has contacted current tenant, they are not interested at this time. The FEDC has a current appraisal.
      Approved placing 212 S. Bois D'arc for sale for one month. Mr. Ketteman said staff will contact a commercial agent. Mr. Burrus asked about language regarding the lease - Mr. Ketteman said the recently-signed lease will stay in effect, for 3 years. Appraisal is $235k.
  • Mr. McBeth returned as chairman.
  • Approved hiring summer intern. Mr. Ketteman said have money in budget, won't affect bottom line, intern will help identify opportunities. They will start after school is out.
  • Adjourned at 2025.
