FEDC considers requests for funds

During its regular Aug. 08, 2019 meeting, the Forney Economic Development Corp. met for a lengthy executive session:


  • Introduced new member Jason Roberson.
  • Financial report: 83% through the year, revenue is about 7% ahead and doing great job on expenses.   Pres. McBeth asked if sales tax up for all businesses - Mr. Ketteman said get a lump sum from comptroller, the chief elected official (mayor) can request the details for budgeting purposes, but it's not for public consumption.   He expects it is across the board.
  • Executive Director's report: Mr. Ketteman pointed out at the DRC meeting (every Tues.) asked Oncor to come visit, got info about new poles, lights, etc.   Took Mr. Roberson on a tour.   Completed this week - snow-cones for city departments.   Sulphur Springs seminar, visited Craig Randall who works there now, building cool apartment buildings.   W. Broad St sewer ready for boring under Broad.   25th anniversary of FEDC.
  • Held a 2-hour 35-minute executive session with several applicants, and Mayor Penn and Mayor Pro-Tem Myers.
  • Kathy McKeethan, Nora Sifuentes plan to lease the property at 100 McGraw from Lucy Hernandez - they want a place to help women who are struggling.   To provide revenue, they will put in a commercial kitchen.   It will be called the Lunch Table, sandwiches, salads, soups (and bacon).   The revenue will help with classes at night.   Ms. Lewis works with Genesis center, a lot of need exists.   Mr. McBeth asks about employees - about 3.
  • Approved a redevelopment grant up to $25k for 100 Mcgraw.
  • Approved amending proposed budget to add $200k towards a commercial CIP project with the city. No details were announced.
  • Approved consulting with city attorney to draft lease agreement with Garrett Company to lease space at Victorian Village.
  • Mr. Ketteman said city hall going electronic, locks will require keycard access.
